1959 British L1A3 SLR Knife Bayonet attributed to Major D. C. BUCKNALL of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers
||SOLD|| SLR L1A3 bayonet and scabbard as fitted to the British issued SLR rifles and dated to 1959. This example comes with a label attached that states it is attributed to: Major D. C. BUCKNALL of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. He served during WW2 1939-1945 and again in the 1960’s. There is some paint loss to the grip due to service use and you can just make out the military NATO reference on both of the steel riveted grips, which seems to read L1A3 960-0257 B. It appears to have the transitional “waisted” crossguard making it an early L1A3 variant.
There is an excellent edge and point to the blackened/parkarised steel blade, which shows some scabbard wear marks.
One side of the ricasso is stamped with B59, which I believe dates its manufacture to 1959. It is complete with its original black painted scabbard, which has an unusual polished brass throat. ||SOLD||
